If thats spending money outside of accommodation then thats loads. Get a tourist MTR pass thingy at the airport when you arrive(cant think right now exactly whats its called but it'll be obvious when you get there). It good for a return journey from the airport to the city & then i think 3 days unlimited travel on the MTR & then you can throw money on it for the days after(& the journeys are cheap). Food is very cheap, especially the likes of McDonalds etc which i ended up living on for a week & still recovering from months later. :)

You should have loads in your budget to do stuff like a trip out to the big budda @ Ngong Ping Lantau Island, get up to the Peak etc etc. There's a site called discoverhongkong(or something very similar) that does a good itinery planner. Over everything id recommend the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence. ;)

The only thing id say is price wise when it comes to shopping for clothes & that your talking very similar to normal prices in Ireland. So 500 is good for doing the tourist stuff but dont expect huge savings elsewhere.

Its called an octopus card and you can top them up in the 7 eleven, works on the ferries and subway as well.
Check out the islands around Hong Kong,Lan Tau is nice if you rent a bike for the day and the roads are not busy.
You can get such good street food in Hong Kong and around wan chai for a fraction of the price in Ireland and very tasty.
Shopping look at the ladies market or around the lrc some factory discount shops great value.
500 spending money will be grand but you can get super bargains in Hong Kong so resist impulse buying, taxis are cheap as well.
Hong Kong is a lot cheaper than the likes of Dublin,a local coupon book is handy and steer clear of the western food haunts.
