IPod Touch Warrenty

    Hi

I have an 10 month old 64gb IPod touch, the touch screen was not working and I brought it back to where I bought it, they sent it off to be checked and have come back and told me its water damage and is not covered by the manufacturers warrenty.

I am having a hard time with this, the water damage issue is confusing as i have never droped it into liquid! They have told me if liquid gets on the screen and is wiped off......................it can damage the inside of the touch.

What I want to know is, if I have any comeback, its 10 months old! I also bought what I was told was extended cover for accidental damage, but this is not the product i have, its for extend warrenty.

I am so annoyed, as if i had know about water causing damage, i.e. raining while out walking and changing the songs, i would never have brought it out as this is the only time i can recall when there was liquid involved with my touch.

    Thanks

    Clara

I find that diagnosis hard to believe, I'd say it's the person in the store speculating. There is a sensor in all iPods and iPhones inside the device where you plug in the USB cable and it changes colour when it gets wet so when your device goes back to the workshop they check this detector and if it has changed colour they know that the device has been in contact with water.

Do you have the documentation for the extended warranty/cover?

    Hi MJ

They have sent it off to a authorised repair centre, they have said water damage, i have never droped or submerged it in liquid................they must have some sort of water resistance and this must be covered under warranty.

    It brutal.

    I can't find the paperwork!

But I am going to see the shop manager this week.

    Thanks

Apparently phones today don't need to be submerged in water, sweat running down the headphone cable or condensation can be enough to change the moisture indicators

The device doesn't need to be submerged in liquid, liquid needs to get into the device. Water damage is rarely if ever covered by warranties.

In so far as the text on the matter:
This warranty does not apply: [...] (d) to damage caused by accident, abuse,
    misuse, liquid contact, fire, earthquake or other external causes;

I'd chance phoning apple directly and giving it another go. They are not as strict on water damage as they used to be.
