Can a car with no nct/tax be parked in a housing estate. Not sure if said estate has been taken over by council if that makes a difference. Gardai are aware of it having no tax but may not know it is left parked up for a few weeks.

How long does a car have to be left like this to be classed as abandoned?

If it's parked on a public street the Gardai can fine you. The housing estate might still be in private ownership but is still a public place.

As for reporting. Depends how observant the locals are. If they saw a car left in a spot for a few days with no tax or NCT they can form their own conclusions and report it straight away and they can do so online now to the local council.

If the car is abandoned it will not be the gardai who remove it. It will be up to the council or developer. A car is abandoned if all effort to locate or identify an owner have been unsuccessful. The local community Garda should be able to assist with this.
