    Hi All

I've a MF690 which rarely gives a problem but the other day I was drawing round bales and after about 30 mins it started stalling, by stalling I mean the engine kept running, revs were ok but it just sort of ground to a halt. I had to nurse it back to the yard in 1st gear at a snails pace. The second I hit the clutch it totally stopped moving,

When I let down the bale it seemed to move better although at this stage I parked it up.

Any ideas what might be wrong??:(

would the handbrake be stuck, just when you said about stopping imediatley when you clutch it kinda sounded like it

I kind of thought the same but the handbrake definitely isn't stuck

Its possibly your clutch so. Is there any type of multi-power in it or is i straight? Test it out - its the only way to find out. It could be something simple like the clutch release bearing, or it could be more serious like the pressure plate or main clutch.

Time to get a mechanic, I think!
If it's the brakes or handbrake, it can be easily tested on a hill.
Does seem to be the clutch.

Sounds like the clutch did you try adjusting the clutch and see will that get you back on your feet

maybe ... the back end went low on oil and the brake discs are welded together. but that would mean you couldent be lifting bales, ie no oil.

is she 4WD. those 690's have a drop box housing for the 4WD shaft and the bushing and bearing wears and the shaft drops down and seizes up.

in truth could be a load of things. discount seized brakes handbrake i think as youd hear the squeeking.

could be a finger gone on the release bearing carrier so the clutch wouldnt disengage properly too. start with the clutch, the inspection plateis underneath the bell housing held up be 2 or 4 bolts. drop that and have a look .....

    Hi ,

I somehow put engine oil into the hydraulics of the MF690

How do I drain this out??? Where is the release draining nut??

What sort of oil? 690 should take universal tractor oil in both the engine and backend.

If it was anything other than universal how much was it?

Bung to drain backend is underneath gear box.

It'll be fine, I did a lot of wrapping with a 390 that was losing oil and i topped it up with engine oil, Never had any problems
