Lads, I've only gotten into the running this year and decided I'd do the Phoenix park 10k run this Sunday..

I've done quite a few 10 k's on the treadmill but very little road running..

Which do you find easier to get on a good time on as I've heard mixed opinions.. Prefeably I think I do better time on treadmill but prefer running outside>?

Over longer distances, I find the road much easier. Boredom sets in on a treadmill for me after 30 minutes or so, and if you're having a tough mile, it's easy to quit. On the road on a 20 mile run or tough faster session, if you're going through a difficult phase, you've got to keep going as you've got to get home one way or other.

People often say that it's easier to run faster on treadmills. I find however that the heat indoors and lack of any wind to cool down slows me down eventually. All in all, I'd pick the road any day of the week over treadmill.

Hi Im only running since Jan ive done 2 5k races in the past 6 weeks up until the first road race all my running had been on treadmill I could run 5k without any problems did the operation transformation 5k got a shock only made it to 2k had to stop And walk entire race was stopping and starting after that I made sure that 2 of my runs a week outside I ran the st patricks 5k start to finish in 38 mins my treadmill time for 5k is 32 mins. Ive never been into sports at all so maybe thats why I found the move from treadmill to outside such a shock. After 4 weeks running outside my endurance was up to what my treadmill endurance was now to work on speed. This was just my experience but until recently I was incredibly unfit so you may not find it as hard a transition as me. Goodluck Sunday Im doing it myself

Cheers folks, all points taken on board. As I said, I much prefer running outside but I reckon I do better times on the treadmill. Lots of steep hills/ valleys where I run which makes it much more enjoyable..

Much easier with the nice weather we're having too! I tend to do 10k in 50 minutes exactly on the treadmill but if I get this in the race I'll be delgihted.
