A friend of mine is looking into changing his jeep. He really like the VW toureg but as he is moving form a swb land cruiser he is a bit apprehensive.

Any nightmare stories with the toureg? Any thing to watch out for when buying it? What are the common faults on them?

    Much appreciated

    Martin

Why is he changing from a cruiser? Much better than a tow-rag in my honest opinion. There is alot of plastic in them in comparison and the cruiser is a much better workhorse too. Why he just dont get a LWB.

the crusier is giving a lot of trouble and he fancied a change.

so no actual evidence that the toureg is a bad machine? Obviously the crusier is the better machine but i suppose you like what you want right?

the toureg is priced pretty keenly and looks like its in good nick. he just wary that there might be common faults that may effect it.

Speaking as a Cruiser owner I may be biased but here goes,

Touareg doesn't have a strong drivetrain, so regular towing will take its toll, its basically a tall a6 avant, on the plus side I have driven one and it is a comfy bus.

The Lc5 isn't as tough as the older 90 series I have, but is still the best all round machine, Discovery are nice but I'm allergic to land rovers!, 3.2 pajero is a good pulling machine if a bit uncomfortable, if towings not an issue then maybe the vw is a decent change. Not for work though!
