Census Enumerators 2006 and 2011 - Workload

    Has anyone done both?

I worked as an enumerator in 2006, applied for 2011 but didn't get the position.

A friend did and the workload he describes during this one seems much heavier than how I remember my time as an enumerator.

There seems to be much more paperwork, also receiving telephone calls from households, completing maps etc.

Could anyone working on this one and who would have worked on the 2006 census give an opinion?

    Thanks in advance.

    thanks for the reply Sean.

That's the impression I got after hearing the involvement required of my

    friend this time around.

When I did it in 2006 it was nearly enjoyable.

    Certainly no stress.

Thanks for the reply and best of luck with the 2 areas you've to complete.

I done it in 2006 also. I think the workload is pretty much the same. Although there has been more pressure on us enum's to get the forms delivered asap. Or maybe instead of pressure I should say encouragement. :)

The paperwork is the same so far, and it looks like the collection stage will be the same too.

The only extra thing we have to do compared to last time is send a text to the census with our total deliveries/collections made each day that we go out. And is the Grid new? I can't remember using the grid last time!

The maps are way better this time, much clearer and in colour. And also it saves time writing info in the ERB as its been preprinted with all the d's and addresses.

But people are becoming more difficult, calling back and little co operation. The money is very bad, but people will always apply for it - as one regional supervisor said. Many who have done it will not do it again. Big money is for field supervisors and regional ones - many of whom have never knocked on a door in their lives - retired higher up civil servants, top gardai etc. Its a shame, none of those should get it unless they have acted as enumerator at least once. Many of them have not a clue whats involved !
