Our back garden is wet and swampy a lot of the year.there are rushes growing in some places.it is also slightly sloping.we cannot afford to get it properly drained for a few years.we bought swings for the kids but now im thinking they will get destroyed with muck when ground is wet.have not assembled them yet.would those rubber mats/grass protection be any use? Apparently the grass can grow through the little holes.a friend suggested laying a few rubber equine mats on top of grass.no holes in them so the grass under would die? Im not sure? any alternative advice or recommendations would be very welcome thanks.

    Hi
The mats work really well and you can even use the lawn mower over them. :)
Rather than draining your whole garden in the future why not just drain the most used spot and try to create a wet meadow in the rest. As well as looking beautiful you will also be saving money. Also it is usually best to try to work with your existing site conditions rather than trying to change them. You will also be able to find many plants that would be ideally suited to your soil conditions and that will thrive there.
