Summons for speeding - never received fine

    Hi,

So I recieved a call two weeks ago from a garda saying he had a summons for me for a speeding offence back in the end of october in Dublin. It was the first I heard of it. He left it in my house with the post that day and i'm in court in 2 weeks.

So sure enough from the picture on the document it was me (66 in a 50 zone). I moved house in the start of october (different house in Dublin) and then I registered my car to my home in Kerry as I'm constantly moving house (and i wanted to avoid missing anything like a speeding fine!!). I can only assume the speeding ticket went to my old address in dublin.

I changed my address for motor tax to my new address in dublin to receive the tax disk in the post and I guess this is how the gardai found me.

Do I have any chance of them just giving me 2 penalty points in court?

    Any advice on the matter?

    Thanks,

You'll have to appear in court but at least you'll have a chance to explain yourself. If the judge believes you and you seem to have a very reasonable explanation, he might well throw the case out. If you're convicted I think the penalty has to be the four points and a larger fine, with no option of just the two points (I'm not entirely sure about this though), and as this would be a bit harsh, the only other option for the judge is to throw out the case.

However, this is just to the best of my knowledge and I hasten to add that this is not legal advice and I could be mistaken. Best of luck anyways.

Go to court. Tell the justice your story.
Hopefully the gards won't turn up and you will get off.
This has happened to me twice( well I got the notification , but I chose to ignore it:)).
    No points so far.
What ever you do don't just ignore it, go to court.

There is 80 euro fixed penalty + mandatory 2 penalty points for speeding.

I tried to pay a fine once through an post and it wouldnt go through said i was too late basically. So I ended up in court. Explained I was willing to pay the and was not contesting the charge. i think this will work for you too. I never got any points just had to pay 120 euro although in court the Judge did say 500 euro but when the new fine came in post it was 120.???
