Online insurance quotes are a waste of time for first time drivers. They are designed generally for drivers who fitcertain low risk profiles. Better off ringing brokers or the insurance companies direct.

    This.

Similar topics come up all the time in this forum and the answer is always the same.

my advice is always use the phone when obtaining quotes. I've found by talking to an insurance person on the phone I can beat any online quote.

I've only renewed in the last 2 weeks so my findings:

nononsense.ie - turns out they were full of nonsense for me
aviva - one of the most expensive, probably trying to make up their lost money in sponsoring that thing in D4.
Tesco Insurance - they sell their insurance just as if they are selling you a bag of carrots, three categories, Finest, normal and value, oh and yes, you get clubcard points
in the end I went with AA Insurance underwritten by Chartis Insurance.
