DB real time displays on Sunday

Covered a good bit of town today and noticed that not a single real time display was turned on. Anyone any idea why?

I would've expected them to be particularly useful on Sundays given that services are more infrequent...

They are still being installed and wired up. The screens which were erected in the last few days (Georges Street, Dame Street, College Green, Aston Quay, Lord Edward Street) have yet to be switched on. I guess it takes a few days after being erected to wire up to electricity and programmed etc.

There are many screens working though. Merrion Square, James Street, Kilmainham, Drumcondra, Burgh Quay, Essex Quay are just a few to mention.

Is there a list somewhere of what stops are going to have them? I've seen them around but done of the stops I use have gotten them so far and it's kinda annoying...

Give it time - this system is still under test and is slowly being rolled out.

There were definitely some working yesterday, all along the swords and drumcondra road.

You can check the times of the upcoming buses on this site:
    http://rtpi.ie/

It seems that the bus stops that will be getting signs are already working on this site, while the stops that won't be getting signs currently don't work on this site.

Which I know is counter intuitive, surely they should enable on the site the stops that won't be getting signs first. So then at least people with smartphones can look them up.

I've used it at a few stops that don't (and look like like they won't) have the signs on them.

Cheers! Sadly on my trip tonight I saw a newly erected one on the stop following where I usually get the bus so had guessed I wouldn't be so lucky to get one too. May consider walking that extra 5 minutes now in future, though knowing my luck, bus will roll on by while I'm in between stops!

I've spent 10 years and paid many bus fares and tax waiting for real time info, and all I've gotten was one system which was a complete failure and a system now which is still "under test".

So you'd prefer that it wasn't even being worked on now? Of course it would be better if it had been around ten years ago but it's on it's way _now_.

The initial system was not actually a complete failiure. It worked quite well. However, the reason for its non-rollout was that funding for it was withdrawn by the DoT who have over the years singularly failed to understand how a bus service should operate.

The AVLC rollout was only completed in February 2011 across all eight Dublin Bus depots and the entire fleet - this was a massive task in itself.

I think that to have the rollout of RTPI across the network started barely two months later is not a bad achievement.
