yep, licence needed, for any bop. Some one comes and checks your setup before granting it.

two lads i lamp/hunt/dig with have just finished their first season working hawks, got them as chicks. its hard work and time consuming but they love it. the birds are male harris hawks. they had to be checked out by rangers and spent about 1000 each all in all getting set up and got licences. again you need to put the time in from what i hear.

This is Willow my female harris and its a great sport. We have just finished our second season hunting together. It does take up alot of time but well worth it.You need to have a licence to own a bird and another licence to hunt with one.

Myself and a mate were sitting in a ditch shooting over pigeon decoys one time and a Harris Hawk swooped down out of nowhere and crashed into one of the decs. Scared the sh1t out of me! It picked itself up and flapped off. We went looking for the handler but there was no one around. Found out afterwards it had escaped from a falconer and was seen around the area quite a bit. Obviously an inexperienced hunter if it was fooled by my faded old decoys. A very impressive bird though.

I have had a wild sparrow hawk have a go at my decoys.
