Wheel nut stripping paint on fork

Anyone else have this happen? It's a pretty new frame that now has some rusty tips on the end of the front fork because the paint came away with the nut every time I was removed it. Am I tightening the nuts too much?

Rust? Is the fork steel? Losing paint at painted dropouts (front and rear) is almost inevitable. Unless the fork is steel it's not really a problem, but if it is you might have to do somethng to prevent corrosion.

    Yeah, it's CrMo?

Are the lock nuts on the axle showing any signs of rust? I'm just wondering if the rust you're seeing on the fork is actually rust staining from the lock nuts. If the actual fork is rusting it might be an idea to lightly sand it off then seal the fork with paint or varnish to prevent further rusting.

No, no sign of rust on the nut. It's the tiniest amount of rust in fairness, just at the very tip of the fork. I'll do as you said though. Just want to stop it getting any worse and see if it were my own doing. Thanks

This ^. The paint is going to come off when the nut or qr is tightened or impinges when set in the drppout. I have unpainted cf dropouts and even they have picked up scrapes though its minimal.
