After re-hearing some hype from an acquaintance recently, my curiosity has been piqued.

All I can say from my own cursory engagement with the band is that they sound like an inferior Interpol, and their version of REM's "Orange Crush" was tautologically similar.

So, good people of A&I, is it worth it?

i think they're a good band with some great songs such as the end has a start' but i'm of the same opinion as you, a poor mans interpol.

Comparing them to Interpol is very lazy, their only real similarity is that both singers have distinct deep voices.
Editors' first two albums were first class, but I was a little bit disappointed by the third one. They should be judged on their own merits, not in comparison to Interpol. Two great bands, Editors better live though. Just.

After a couple of years of just liking Editors, they are now probaly my favourite band. Before I had seen either Editors or Interpol live I compared the two but since seeing both of them live thats what won it for me and now I wouldnt compare the two at all, except for what LUPE says, both singers have deep voices.

The Back Room and an End has a Start are very good in my opinion and still hold up but I wasn't as impressed with In This Light and on This Evening but am awaiting the day when it finally wins me over!

And whats en Editors thread without my favourite song

Never a huge Editors fan. Have all the albums and like them rather than loving them.

Have to agree about "Escape the Nest" though. Comfortably my favourite Editors song.

See they are playing Marley Park with Bell x1 in August. Potential to be a decent summers evening.

Agree, a poor mans Interpol, and I do think the comparison is very apt. The influences have to be similar. New Order, The Cure, Joy Division, Jane's Addiction, Depeche Mode etc etc. Interpol music is of a far higher quality.

Try seeing them live, I've seen both three times and Editors are very very impressive. Dare I say it, they outshone Interpol at Oxegen in 2008. Both are very solid bands I think, who've put out some questionable material.

They are very polite young men.

That's the best thing I can say about them.

Maybe it's because I play drums myself, but I prefer them to Interpol because I feel the drumming is much more interesting. I think they should indeed be judged separately though. And if the last album is anything to go by, they're gonna end up a lot more electronic in the future. Not too sure how to feel about that...

Beyond these guys and Wild Beasts, the UK's alternative music scene sure is producing a lotta bands well versed in social etiquette, eh? ;)

It's true! They're all really polite. Friendly Fires too.

    Raised proper I'd wager.

Well, when one band has been around longer and the second band is very much influenced by that band it's the only logical way of seeing things.
I remember reading somewhere that they sound like Joy Division if they never bothered listening to them and just listened to Interpol instead.

Poor mans Interpol? Nope, if anything its the other way round. I'm a big fan of Interpol, but Editors are better IMO. They've changed their sound in 3 albums far more than Interpol have managed in 4.
