Video CameraPhone - Secret Filming

Was out last night in a nightclub and a bouncer spent about 15 minutes filming my group of friends which included my sister, my girlfriend, my two brothers and a girlfriend of my brother. He stood with his arms folded and his phone sticking up through his arms. He moved to three different locations the third of which was at a steps. I had my suspicions and left the group to go to the bathroom and doubled back and came up behind him and sure enough his phone was on camera mode and it was straight at my group. I stayed watching him for a couple of minutes before returning to the group and telling them very loudly and pointed at the bouncer. He put his phone into his pocket and hovered around. Another bouncer came around collecting glasses and I complained to him and pointed out the bouncer. The guy just blew me off but after a couple of minutes I saw him talking to the bouncer who then moved away to a different part of the nightclub altogether ( this all happened at the end of the night ).

Im not sure how to look at this. My first instinct is big deal sure arent we all being watched on camera anyway. But it still makes me very uncomfortable and kind of wary because some of those phones have very good zooms and my girlfriend was wearing quite a low cut top. So i want to do something about it because its disturbing to think what type of voyeuristic pleasures he may derive from filming the girls.

Am i wasting my time making a complaint to the nightclub or the gardai. I know it couldnt possibly lead to anything and I amnt out for blood but I want him to know he didnt get away it.
Or am I overreacting and should just forget about it?

If you want to make a complaint, make a complaint. It may turn out that not much comes of it, but it'll stand against that bouncer in future. The last thing you should do is let this get to you.

Sounds like this guy is a pervert or something. Only way I can see why someone would be filming people like that is if they want to get their rocks off later. Sure, bouncers keep an "eye" on people sometimes, but an eye, not a recorded video!

If you complain to the bar... management/who ever would just fob you off. think you are creating a story cause the bouncer didnt let you in  etc etc. Gardai would think along the same. Plus being honest, they wouldnt give a toss to look into it.

But I guess you shouldnt just leave it ... so the only thing you can really do is ring up the bar sometime this week. Talk to the manager and say what went down. Expect a fob off either way. But, if he/she hears about it and someone else said the same (or someone else WILL say the same again in the future) the story will have merit. That and dont goto the bar again is all you can do.

Complain as said above and if you get no joy vote with your feet. Don't go there and tell your mates not to go there. He cant record anyone if the place is empty.

Yah i rarely go there, once a year job, it was my brothers 30th so we felt we had to embellish it with a trip to the local niteclub. I dont have any intentions to return soon. I am going to contact management and air my concerns and leave it at that. Thanks for the input!

Glad your not leaving it go. Its kind of no win situation and nothing come off it more likely but thats not point.

I forgot to add that the bouncer has to be licensed in accordance with P.S.A rules. If requested he or his employer has to give you his name and badge number. You can then contact the P.S.A to make a complaint and when this guy goes to renew his license the complaint will be on their files and will make it difficult for him to renew. If you ask for and are not given the number you can report the premises to the P.S.A which can lead to big fines for the nightclub if their employing unlicensed ppl.

What a perv! Not much you can do about this unfortunately, apart from writing to the club to complain, there's a chance the club manager might sack the pervert!

Strange but I wouldn't be too worried about it...

I remember we were all feked on drugs in my living room at about 6am one morning when one of the girls screemed cause a guy was at the window taking a video of us. We went out to him and after a heated debate, figured he was an undercover cop trying to get our faces on video and any evidence of wrong doing.. Maybe the bouncer is doing the same thinking one of your friends was someone else or a dealer?

Is there a legal difference between a video on a work phone and cctv footage?

Are you sure that was an undercover Garda? That evidence wouldn't stand up in court as far as I know.

That's because it was being taped on private property, and more importantly the dwelling place.

He was a well dressed mid-30s man so we thought it was the most plausible explanation.. We had been out on the street about half an hour before chattin to people so figured that was brought the attention onto us. We looked a right state chewin down some imaginary food for the night.
