MS REMOVAL TOoL (virus)

any tips on how to get rid of this..have tried all the usual stuff..avg/c/cleaner /spyware/ malware all in safe mode but nothing works.

any tips

Use the instructions here. Theres more to do than normal. Proxy and hosts file settings need to be corrected. Make sure you follow EVERY step right to the end.

I've spent most of the day battling this virus, and I think I won. First thing I did was shut down my router/I felt I could not trust anything I could google, until I cleared this, and god knows what info this virus was trying to upload. I don't know what advice is in the links here but a tip to anyone fighting this, wipe your free space, as I'm convinced it can hide here.

Well then read them and find out

Most viruses/malware (especially the scam scareware ones looking for money) are very well known and there are tried and tested methods for removing them that will work. Of course there are also links on the Internet that don't work - that's where judgement and advice from others (such as people here on boards.ie) comes in.

this advice was super, major thanks! however i was not able to follow all steps to the end got lost from point 22 onwards and i'm not totally sure all the virus is gone? i'm also unsure of the 'free space' 2 stroke references

could any 1 advise?
i was, and still am running AVIRA free antivirus but after this i'm lookin to purchase an antivirus - only use my laptop for browsing etc, 'net shoppin, online banking, not for work purposes

Hi,

I have a couple of FAQs at the bottom of this virus removal page. One of them is a tad more advanced than the other but might be of use to you nontheless.

Also, rather than Avira I would use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malware Bytes both of which are free.

I accidentally got my PC infected with the MS Removal Tool virus yesterday. Luckily I had a laptop with which I used to investigate this virus. Thank God, I read that the software was a hoax and got tips on how to get rid of it. This has saved me quite some heartache, and is quite easy to remove. Anybody can do it. Check it out on You tube, you'll be amazed.
