If I change from UPC to Sky.....

.... Will I lose my analogue channels?

I got two analogue points in the house installed when I went with UPC digital a few years ago.

But now with UPC taking the piss again losing more channels, I've finally had enough of them.

So if I get Sky Digital, will I lose the analogue channels in the 2 other points in the house?

    Thanks :)

A friend of mine done the same and still has the analogue signal 5 years later. You should expect to lose UPC analogue if you quit UPC completely and they physically detach you from the network but don't be too surprised if you still have it for another while.
I suspect they will switch off the analogue signal in the next few years to recover valuable bandwidth once they get everyone on your network segment moved onto digital.

If you take their broadband you may not lose them until analogue switchoff next year and even then maybe not. UPC won't ever say :)

Analogue switch off is not affecting UPC unless they have said themselves that they are turning off their analogue network.

They mainly downconvert from digital so it should not affect them overly. I think some analogue is passed through though...eg the Irish channels.... and will have to be downconverted post 2012.

    Thanks all.

The broadband is fine, don't have a problem with that at all. It's the tv and disappearing channels that's annoying me.

So if I keep the broadband as my only service, should I still recieve the analogue channels?

I think they would need to 'recover' the analogue frequencies if they offer 200mbit + BB services. They could also come under space pressure with more HD as standard. They use the old VHF3 band AFAIR c 150mhz - 300mhz for the analogues and I assume the modem is configured top pass it through ( not listen or block it , just ignore) . That 150mhz block is around 20% of the total capacity of an average 800mhz cable, ie an awful shaggin waste :D

Yes, I do. Ditched UPC tv last year in favour of sky (best decision we've ever made) but kept the broadband.
We've a couple of tvs upstairs that still recieve the analouge upc signal and get around 18 or so channels on it.

Make sure to instruct the sky installer to leave your aerial alone. For some reason they guys we got cut ours in the attic and we ended having to have it reinstalled after leaving sky.
