No display on Laptop screen

    Hi guys,
I tried replacing the screen on my laptop today, the original shattered on me so I used a spare screen until I got my new one. Today I got 2, one of which was a HITACHI TX39D80VC1GAA LCD PANEL, which has dual backlights and 2 plugs. I bought this cheap off ebay and wanted to test it so when I was going to install the new screen I tried this first. Nothing happened when I plugged it in so I removed it again and installed my new screen. When I powered on the machine again I could just about make it what was on screen, everything was extremely dark, so i again removed this screen and put in the one I had been using, but again everything was very dark and I couldn't make anything out.
I've got a bad feeling I'm after screwing something up big time! I plugged in an external monitor to check would that work and sure enough everything displayed perfectly. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I have done and/or can do to fix it?
I'll really appreciate any help anyone can give me on this.
    Thanks in advance

It's the screen inverter by the sounds of it.

I've tried a couple of other inverters that AFAIK were working in other machines but still no joy. The screens are working because I tried them on another laptop they everything was fine. I'm very confused!

    Hi,

Is it possible the power going to your backlights has been obstructed in some way by a bad connection or damaged wiring? If that was the case it would explain whey have a picture but one that is very dark. That or somehow the screen brightness has gotten turned all the way down. From what I judge to be your level of technical competence I imagine this is something you would already have checked but thought I would add it anyway.

Try the broken screen again see if the backlight lights on boot, if it does remove it and put in the new screen. Sounds like a doa screen or bad cables if the inverter is fine.. al

    What make/model is your laptop?
If it's a Dell, the screen needs to be a Dell compatible screen , otherwise it will be dark.

Dell aren't the only manufacturers that do that, but are the main ones.

    Hi guys,

just an update on this, i managed to get my hands on another laptop thats the exact same model as this. I swapped inverters, still no joy with the original laptop, while the second laptop worked fine with the other inverter. So that rules out a problem with the inverter.

I tried swapping the cable then incase that got damaged, but again the same as above so its not the cable! Tried swapping screens and still no difference.

So i just looked at the plug on the motherboard where the screen connects, one of the pins is bent on it! No sure if this is what is causing the problem but cant be helping it anyway! My problem now is what the hell am I gonna use to straighten the pin with out snapping it. Its obviously tiny and in quite an awkward angle. I dont have a pliers small enough!

A set of tweezers might be handy if yourself or the other half have one lying around. That or you may be able to get a small screwdriver underneath the pin to manipulate it into place.

I knew it was going to happen, managed to snap the pin! I'm completely pi$$ed off with it bit not much I can do i guess! I had resigned myself to the fact that I'd need to get a new motherboard anyway so trying my hardest to source one now, its not proving to be to easy though. May have found one in the uk, otherwise it'll be the US!
