    New Giant Defy 3 (2010 model) http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/defy.3/4861/38960/

    For €700 - the bike

He'll give me the latest Trek model Helmet, tyre change kit and cycle shorts for thrown in for €750

Offer to upgrade tyres for €60 bucks to gators

    What do you think?

I'm new to cycling, run a fair bit and looking to do a triathalon this year. Sales guy reckoned these were a popular tri bike last year.

Or should I buy something higer up but 2nd hand?

    Thanks,

Have to say, looking at the spec, ya might be better off looking for something of a higher spec second hand. Thats just my opinion, no doubt others would disagree.

I got a defy 4 last year for around the 550 mark. Absolutely love the bike.
The one in the picture is a defy 3 2010 model as far as I know. So between the defy 3 and 4 there used to be a defy 3.5. But that is no longer a model for 2011.

I think it's a good deal. I'm not a bike expert. I'm a runner who does a bit of cycling now and then. Mainly commuting. But my experience with the defy 4 has been nothing but good.

I'll put it this way, if the deal you've seen was offered to me at the time I was buying my bike I would have gone for it.

Edit: Oh apologies I misread the post. I though you said for "600 euro." I still think it's a decent deal. The current defy 3 model is 799 euro I think.

Thanks guys, yeah from speaking to a guy from work who's mad into his cycling, he said they are not bad bikes and that I can always upgrade parts etc if I get more into the sport....

If I was you I'd wait, save up another few hundred quid & buy a better spec'd bike. Either that or buy second hand.
