High Pitched Screeching Noise

    Hi all,

Have had a car which has given me nothing but bad luck. Everything and anything...

The latest, 06 Audi A3. There's a high pitched screeching noise occasionally coming from what seems to be the wheels. It doesnt seem to be the brakes as it can occur when i am moving slowly, say taking off from the lights. Then on other days, nothing, no sound whatsoever. Any suggestions as to what it is and what i should do with this money pit, aside from the garage that is? More curious as to know what it may be tbh!

    Thanks,

    Muff.

Could be the brake pads rubbing off the disc

This is more than likely what it is, the back of the brake pads might not have had grease applied to them when they were fitted.

This happened me on a fiesta, brake pads where rubber the disc, at low speed it was squealing.

dont know audis but bmw with rear disc breaks have drum for handbrake and this can fill with dirt esp after all the grit on the roads this winter and this can cause screeching, it can be blown out with compressed air sometimes

Could be stones getting into the brakes. My audi is terrible for this as audi decided an aerodynamically shaped brake guard was a good idea. So instead of the usual couple of mm between disc and guard, there are places on mine where you can fit your fingers in the gap due to the curvy shape. Not good on roads with loose chippings

unless you are able to change brake pads yourself ie remove caliper.. remove pads..smear copper grease on back of pads.. (not side rubbing on disc) put all back together...... then its a garage job
