No. He lost in the minor final to Galway 1983 - joined Arsenal shortly after that.

He still goes to a few Dublin games in Croker every year.

He shows up at Tipp games regularly as well, used own or co-own a pub in Clonmel (maybe still does). Not sure what the Tipp connection is, on his father's side I think.

His father was from Tipp (played full-back for them once or twice i think) and he'd be a big supporter of them.
He captained an underage Ireland team in Australia in international rules and according to his auto-biography was approached to join Melbourne, when he said no they took Jim Stynes instead.

I think he holds the hurling scoring record at minor level at CP. I have an unread copy of his book at home in the garage that I got for Christmas years ago. The book does not mention his hurling much at all, I flicked through the book looking at the photos as I always do on such sporting books, the result was me never being interested enough to pick it up again.
For me it lost its appeal as I would have thought he'd have a picture of himself representing his county having A. broken a record and B. Scored a supper goal along the way. He appealed to me as a Kevin Moran type individual.
There is a picture of him in Tip colours though, plus some little quote at the start about Tip too.
But I could not find a picture or a mention of playing for Dublin, it might be in the text somewhere but it did not jump out, might make it more interesting for a Tip man, but as a Dub I felt a little let down by it to be honest.
This may reflect poorly on me as an individual, but here we are.

If anyone one from Tip wants the book I will gladly post it to them at their expense.:)

    Edit
with respect to the Jim Stynes extract, I don't know if I believe that fully, Stynes was a fine minor footballer, physically I doubt he was a second choice, Quinn may have said no, but I don't think stynes was a silver medal.

He obviously had plenty of hurling ability to score a point like that ...

By all accounts he was a terrific hurler.

But Jim Stynes was brought out to Melbourne based on trials held in Ireland. Quinn was in London with Arsenal before Stynes was ever seen by an AFL scout.

The Quinner is very proud of his Tipp heritage.

Quinns father played hurling for Tipp before moving to Dublin for work reasons.
