hey guys as anyone got some good links on how to setup up gears properly? my new slx chainset wont go into the big ring in the back (keeps trying but failing to go in) and when i put it in the smallest cog it falls off, im not too sure where the limit screws are on the slx derraileur either, are they the two little screws facing backwards? i must have the worst luck of any mtber to ever start this sport

my major problem right now is that i have no bike stand (any advice on a cheep and cheerful one), one question guys say you set up the gears on a stand or upside down to work perfectly what happens when you put the bike on the ground with your weight? does that effect the gearing? this is doing my head in tbh because i just changed my whole chainset because of problems like these  and of course i fooked up my rear juicy three brake yesterday trying to recalibrate it (loosened the wrong two bolts) /rant

The bike must be the right way up to set up the derailleur properly as part of the way that it works relies on its own weight to change gear.
A good cheap bike stand is to just hang the bike from the back of the saddle with a piece by a piece of rope just lifting the back wheel a few inches off the ground. You can spin the wheel then.
Of course you need something to suspend the bike from though which might be another problem.

Two dinner table chairs & a mop handle has done the trick for me!
