XPS 17 - Does not having Dual Channel Matter?

As above, really. Looking at a Dell XPS 17 and the model I want just comes within budget.

The only downside I see to the spec is that it has 3GB (2 + 1) Ram. The laptop I'm currently on has 2GB Ram and is perfect for what I need so I don't seem too pushed on having to spend extra on going for a 2 + 2 setup.

Does Dual Channel capability matter anymore or is there still a performance increase in a 2 + 2 as opposed to a 2 + 1 + 1. That is, of course; whether I'd add a 1GB stick in the future.

    Thanks in advance.

It's a performance increase but not much. I think it's only in the region of 5%. Also, you may not be able to have 2+1+1 as most laptops only have 2 ram slots.
