No real catch TBH, I had my first year of personal insurance after leaving the Motor Trade with them. They were cheaper than anyone else. Never been great on price since though. At the time, they were underwritten by Hibernian/Aviva.

They're RSA now. and honestly they're basic cover is better then anything Quinn is throwing around....

I'm with them 4 years. They were the cheapest at the time. One year they were €30 more so, I called around and got cheaper and they matched it.

They were underwritten by Hibernan at the time and the cheaper quote was from Hibernan.

Haven't had any claims but called out the AA type thing they have a few times. Well worth €209.

    One catch for new drivers,

You must have 2 years No Claims Bonus before They'll give You a quote.

Thats probably one reason it's so low, they don't insure young drivers just starting off which carry the most risk.

I was an employee in one of their stores at the time, and they still didn't want to know!

Would a few years as a named driver count?

    Good Question,

No, I had two years named driver experince and she said it didn't count without even asking what I was insuring (1.4)

The 2 yrs NDE with Quinn made a fair dent in my premium though.

Got a quote off them the other day, I've only got one years no claims discount

yep they do, take a deposit by laser/credit card, pay rest off by direct debit with a surcharge though

The catch is they're not that cheap.

Was with them when the staff discount made it worth while, but it was removed after a year so left

I got a quick quote from them recently and it was cheap alrighter, however when I added the same benefits of my existing policy they ended up being more expensive. So make sure you are comparing like with like before assuming they are cheap.

the way I think about insurance at the mo is that its a legal requirement for me to drive so I'll go with the cheapest quote. when I get my audi quattro or tt I'll probably care more about what they do and dont cover!

Am insured with RSA already through a broker so curiosity killed the cat and I went onto get a quote through Tesco online. Entered in the same particulars as for my last renewal and guess what Tesco are noticeably more expensive so they are obviously taking a substancially larger brokerage charge. Absolutely no surprise to me there anyhow...Pretty much in keeping with their ongoing ethos of chance our arms and fleece the customer. Lets drop the prices of some products and throw a massive advertising campagain and make a lot of noise over it, fail to mention the large number of price hikes and furthermore bump up the prices of many of those we dropped on the sly over the course of a few weeks and months. Also Tesco, don't bother shouting about dropping literally 1 or 2 cent off the price of a product when it costs upwards of a fiver cos I really don't want to know and yer competitors are doing so much more.

Sorry for the rant and going of on a tanget but in my mind its another fail on the part of Tesco. I also actually tried them for a motor insurance quote in my eariler days of driving when they were underwritten by Hibernian. Hibernain were considerably cheaper for comparable cover when I went to them directly but I went with another insurance company at the time as they were cheaper again.
