Or more specifically a lack of one!, failed the NCT because it does'nt light up on ignition start.

I presume it has worked in the past because it's been through 2 NCT's before no problem, but it failed this one because of it.

Has anyone else enconutered this problem? If anyone could offer possible causes and solutions it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance:)

Perhaps there was an airbag fault in the past and some butcher took the LED out of the cluster rather than fix the problem.

Air bag lights can be caused be something small i.e a loose or dirty connection,or something large like a faulty Airbag ECU or Slip ring which would be expensive to fix in which case a dodgy dealer/seller might do the above.

Only way to find out for sure is to scan the car, what part of the country are you in ? if you are local to me i'll scan it for you.

EDIT just seen your location is Mayo lol i'm in kildare.

Sickening when someone pulls the bulb out like that.
Worse when it's done to the engine light.

It is but in fairness when you buy a car you should at the very least make sure every light is working and if possible have it scanned.

How difficult would it be to pull out the dash and have a gander myself?
Is the unit itself not a sealed unit?? or can i access the LED?

Point taken about checking before buying, i have had it a few years now so lesson learnt i guess.

    Thanks in advance.

Not very difficult to pull out the cluster and separate it if you know what you are at,but that would be the silly way of doing it.Best to get it scanned first and see what the problem is with the ABS,you can also do output tests on the cluster where all the warning lights on the clocks will be illuminated.

Is the ABS working ? did you notice it kicking in during the last snow/ice spell we had for instance?
