Where do you all get your games and what games worth buying? also any other suggestions/tips or ideas much appreciated. Still trying to figure out the online business but I'm getting the hang of it :) Not gonna be a serious gamer but I do have fun and wanna make the most of it.

If I were you I'd go through the games from 2+ years ago on metacritic and the like. Should be able to pick up loads of racing and shooting games with decent graphics for 5-10 quid second-hand now, I wouldn't be spending 40+ quid on a game yet when there's a big back-catalogue to get through. :)

As for reccommendations the Resistance and Killzone games should be cheap to pick up and for racing the Motorstorm games have been around a while, as has GRiD. Blur is decent too and is a fairly recent release.

    Not fps or driving but
Uncharted 1 & 2 should be pretty cheap and are must haves.(3rd person action)
God of War Chronicles (1&2) (3rd person action)
    Fallout 3 (fps/rpg)
    COD4 (fps)

COD Series : MW2 and Black ops are probably a bit expensive but plenty still play them online. These games get slagged off a lot but are good fun.

I love the Resistance games 1&2 & would definately recommend them. Hated Killzone but it is popular.

    Welcome < waves >

Never too late to pick up a PS3. As been mentioned above, ya cant go wrong with any of the COD's if you want a quick intro to FPS that is fun and decent online, Killzone 1/2 should be cheapish now.

Racing games, well GT5 is new enough and great fun if ya want something thats rewarding ( if ya put in the effort )

Best thing to is play a few games, maybe rent them and see what ya like, read reviews and get opinions and then decide what you want from the games you like.

The only way to know wheer to get games is shop around, you might get a bargain in GAME that Gamestop didnt have, same goes for Argos, Smyths or any of the retailers. Also try online for bargains or Adverts.ie

OP get your hands on Uncharted, Resistance 1 & 2. All will be relatively cheap.

And while you're at it, you may as well pick up Arkham Asylum. Quality game.

The Uncharted titles are must haves. Two of the most entertaining games I'm played.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Heavy Rain, one of the more unique titles available on the PS3.

The Resistance games are both good FPS, and should be a cheap purchase by now, plus if you do like them, there'll be a 3rd one on the way soon when you do fancy purchasing a fresh release.

And I second Arkham! Most delightful surprise of a game ever! Just brilliant to play

    Happy Gaming!

Im relatively new to PS3 as well, so spent the last few months catching up on stuff that had been released from launch that I'd missed out on.

I do shop online, but I find that bricks and mortar shops can have decent offers on older games (and sometimes newer ones too - Mod Nation Racers is available in Argos for €14.99 . Info courtesy of the boards.ie bargain alert thread which is a useful resource for online and B&M offers on games).

At the moment, GAME have a "buy 2 get 1 free" offer on some of their previously played games, where (depending on the branch you visit) you can find the likes of Resistance Fall of man, Battlefield Bad Company & Sega Rally for €9.99 each, or €20 for the 3. All recommended early titles.

If you're willing to take a punt on Sports titles, the likes of Pro Evolution Soccer, WWE, Fifa, NHL, Cricket & NBA basketball can all be found in their 2009/2010 incarnations at well under a tenner, and sometimes from as little as €2.99.

In fact, some sports games including older Fifa and Pro Evo Soccer editions are actually just 99c in several GAME and Gamestop stores. Even with the most minimal interest in sport, if you get a couple of hours entertainment out of them, you've got your moneys worth.

Personally, as far as shooters are concerned, I recommend the Resistance games (about €5.99 to 9.99 pre played most places for Fall of Man, about €12 for Resistance 2) And the Call of Duty Series (COD3 , "World at War" and possibly "Modern Warfare" are available brand new in HMV for €16.99, which is cheaper than many stores are selling them pre-played ) Im also a bit old school (or just old) , so The Sega Megadrive collection was an essential purchase for me (Again, HMV, about €16)

Shop around tho, prices can vary wildly from location to location, check the price online (Amazon & Play would be the usual suspects, but I've received good service from Gamesnash.ie in the past) and weigh up your options before buying, as even though you'll hopefully be spending very little for some good quality games, one thing to consider is that the resale/trade in value of the vast majority of older titles you'll buy is practically nil.

There is some good stuff in those bargain bins tho. Happy shopping.

Just buy Bad Company 2 and you wouldn't need another game for many months. It's just awsome!

Where do you all get your games

You really gotta do a bit of shopping around. Gamestop are generally rip off merchants on 2nd hand games, they give pittance and charge about a fiver less than a new game. HMV sometimes gets in new games at special offers (new as in not 2nd hand). Smyths and Game is worth looking out for to try and catch a bargain.

For online price comparissons try www.fine-games.co.uk
    Also adverts.ie
    and what games worth buying?

That really depends what you like.

I like Gamespot's website - though some question their impartiality - and their list of top games is here.

There is no shortage of shooters for the PS3.

Frequently cited great games would be Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, God of War III (+the previous two games), Batman: Arkham Asylum, LittleBigPlanet, Burnout, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas, Bioshock, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank, Street Fighter 4, Fallout 3 and then of course all of the sports games which are up to your own personal interest in them.
(I left out Call of Duty here cause I don't like it)

also any other suggestions/tips or ideas much appreciated. Still trying to figure out the online business but I'm getting the hang of it :) Not gonna be a serious gamer but I do have fun and wanna make the most of it.

    Cheers u guys :) xx:P

Not sure about other suggestions or tips. If you have a HDTV get yrself down to a pound shop and get a HD cable. If you like films get some blu-rays since the PS3 can play them.

There's a few fancy things the PS3 can do but I'm only getting to grips with it myself. Like for instance I understand you can access your laptop computer via bluetooth from the PS3...
