Has anyone seen any leading/unique examples of businesses using QR Codes?

With dvd displays in shops, i have seen a qr code on the stand to view a trailer of the film. Subway use them as their reward scheme. They scan a qr code on your loyalty card or phone app to reward your points .

I'd like to see cinemas using them for e-tickets. I believe it was trialled by ITTallaght a few years ago over MMS, it seems like a really obvious way to do it, rather than presenting your Credit Card at the lobby.

I just received new business cards yesterday and part of my design was including a QR code that when scanned brings up my contact info and a prompt for a free offer.

Thanks. We've got things like a QR code on a kayak flyer takes the user to a kayak promo video, but looking for some really unique ways to use them also. It looks like they're a sure bet for future promotion opportunities...

    The cool thing about QR codes is that they can be printed up really large as well;

This may sound silly but how do you scan them? and where did you get your business cards printed?

    Thanks.

When you say that they bring you to a promo video, is that a web page that has a piece of video on it - am I right in thinking that they just bring you to a designated web page or are there other ways to use them?

suey71 - you scan them with a smart phone. Any printers should be able to add them to a business card once you supply the graphic. Get a code from a site like this.

This is a better generator imo because you can specify the type of action intended. For example when you fill it out as a contact form, you can add the person to your phonebook with one click on your phone after scanning.

edit: This one actually has way more options still.

    Thanks, that's great!

They bring you to a designated web page, you're right; but that web page can be, for example, a YouTube video in your YouTube business channel. That's how we're using them at the moment.

They're really useful for saving Business Card details to your phone as opposed to typing the details. I've seen some billboards with a promo which works well too

    Hi All,
The QR Codes are v-interesting. Just spent the last 15 minutes taking a look
at QRstuff , as recommended by Cianos. (Cheers!)

I loaded the "i-nigma 4" scanner on my iPhone, via i-Tunes. It reads the two examples on this thread no probs, even the photo of the bill board.

I've already put our business phone details on our website using the code gen'ed by the site and it's v-easily read from my old laptop screen (covered in my sons finger prints!).

I’ll certainly be using QRs on our next batch of business cards and stationary.
I didn’t have any real appreciation or understanding of the QRs prior to this thread so thanks v-much "NathanKingerlee" for kicking off the conversation.

Oh, in answer to your initial question their uses appear to be unlimited really. Have a look at the above site for ideas.

    Thanks again all.
