"Certified Teacher" - Primary Teaching

    Hi, quick question,

Does the term "certified teacher" refer to someone who has done the dip (Primary School Teaching) or is it someone who is a member of the Teaching Council?

I have not done the dip but have a probationary Teaching Council membership.

Am I certified? I presume not?

I see the term when looking at payscales for Tefl teachers. It's also mentioned in terms of "those with a Teaching Certificate".

TEFL is separate to primary or secondary teaching. A TEFL qualification does not qualify you to teach at primary or second level in Ireland. It just qualifies you to teach TEFL so I assume they are looking for TEFL qualification.

    Maybe I wasn't clear.

I have a B.Ed in Primary Teaching and have about a year's experience. However, I have not done the dip year.

I am starting work in Korea in a couple of weeks teaching English. Their payscales vary.

If one is a certified Primary or Secondary School Teacher in their home country, in my case Ireland, they get paid more than people with just a degree.

So although I have not done the dip/probationary year, I have one year's experience teaching Primary here in Ireland, and have a temporary Teaching Council number.

Could I pass as being certified on this alone or would I have to have done my probation?
