I don't really want Firefly to come back to be honest; when you look at the plethora of shows that nose-dived after a promising first season, it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that Firefly would've have suffered the same fate. Doubly so given that Fox may have kept fiddling with the show, even after commissioning a 2nd series.

Besides, in SciFi, there's nothing that grinds my gears more than an over-elaborated mythology; at least Firefly died young and allowed the fans to use their imagination to fill the blanks, and keep a little of the mystery alive. For instance, I'm glad we never found out who the Preacher really was, the reality would never have lived up to the mystery

Good grief; I can safely say I would have no interest in reading that. Just don't like ruining the mystery.

As it happens, thanks to this thread, I spent the week re-watching Firefly to reacquaint myself with Cap'n Mal and the crew. Having done so it struck me that if you take away the genuinely wonderful characters & dialogue, Firefly can be a bit heavy handed, if not a bit shoddy in places. In particular, the western motifs & set-pieces are really clunky at times, and lacking any subtly (or internal logic).

Having said all that, watching the series again reminded me that a big reason I loved Firefly was just because of Kaylee / Jewel Staite
