    Hi There,

Does anyone know about this new 3 year residency requirement for those who wish to apply for a Higher Education grant ?

Is it really strict ? I've only been resident in Ireland for 2.5 of the last 5 years but I was born in Ireland lived there for 22 years before that.

    Thanks

    Louise :P

Thanks for the speedy reply :D !!

Wow- so if Id stayed at home and lived off the dole for the past year I would have more entitlement to a grant than I do after deciding to stay where I had a secure job.

    Anon ;)

I have the exact same problem, I fall short of the three years by a few months. Sickener.

Not necessarily it all depends, if you're applying as an independent adult it could be harder. If you're applying through your parents it shouldn't be a problem

You're suppose to be normal resident in the area where your grant is coming from, I haven't lived at home since I was 18, I'm 24 now, this also included periods out of the country, including 18 months and I got the grant no problem. Depends on the county and which avenue your applying through. If you don't seek you can't get so put it in, worse thing is they say no

    Hi Louise,

Im planning to return to education. I being me. Rang a number of CO.CO's and actually interviewed staff members. Although the DOE have not released the new grant forms, they have been instructed not to give any leeway on this area. As usual a few bad apples spoiled it for the rest and no quarter will be given.

    Hi There,

I fall short by about three months for residency requirement I think. As a dependent mature candidate what proof do i need to show for residency?

I came home from Oz at the end of oct 2007 and then left again in Nov 2009.By Sept of 2011 I will be here 35 out of 36 months .I have a level 8 already and qualified for maintenance grant for my undergrad?

I am at a loss ,I have had an interview for a masters that did not go well but I really want to get back to education this year.I have also completed a level 6 with FAS since I came home.I am desperate ,has anyone any advice?

I do not like to be the prophet of doom. I telephoned 4 co-cos and several vec's the one thing which they are coming down on this year is the residency issue. I'm fortunate because i had contemplated staying an extra year which would have meant that I was 6 months under the 36 month rule.

Do another fas course and wait another year. The DOE and the Higher grants authorities will not waiver on this issue. I have been advised to provide p60's P45's P21's for the 3 years and 8 months out of the last 5 that I was living in the country. The view is that if you didn't reside in the state you have not contributed to the system. Unless a person was in the EU area.

    ss:)

    Hey Simonez,
Thanks for your info ,I also have very little proof of my residency except a p21 from the end of 2007,one for 2008 and one for 2009.I havent always lived at home just never changed addresses.I am at my wits end ,its like I could leave again for NZ but then i will just be in same boat again. Im not loaded btw, have enough for flight is all.I am thinking of the WPP program.Idle hands and all that :(:(:(
