    Hi all,

I'm working on a farm in regional Victoria for about months now. I've decided that i don't want ot go home and am quite happy to stay working for the farmer. The problem is I have no experience of farmwork or qualification in Agriculture prior to coming to Australia.

My employer is all for getting letters written to certify that he is unable to get an Australian to do the job but will this be enough? I've looked at the DIAC website and to be honest, it just confuses me more and more every time. It gives a mere mention to an 857 visa but little information about what I need to do to satisfy its criteria. I've also tried to contact Immigration over the phone but the staff seem to be reading directly from teh website without having any actual knowledge of what the actual process involves.

    Can anyone help?

You will have to look into state sponsership

    http://www.liveinvictoria.vic.gov.au/visas-and-immigrating/state-sponsorship

and see if farmhand is required. Other than that Im not too sure, employee sponsership usually requires a qualification.

Im just saying its difficult now to get regional sponsered visa without a qualification. I went to solicitors about this while I was there and my options were fairly limited.

Id agree with mandrake 457 is the way to go, but Id also recommend seeing an immigration solictor

If you have any qualification it will help immensely

    Hi Irish Turkey,
In Victoria at the moment, looking for harvest jobs there is 4 of us, we are really struggling. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. As in where abouts to go, ringing loads of people but not really getting anywhere. Is there a town or area you would recommend to go??
