''this RS4 Avant is understood to use the same running gear as the RS5 coupe.
    That means a 444bhp 4.2-litre V8 pushing out 317lbft of torque and mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch S-Tronic transmission.''

Dont think those pics do those wheels justice (i like the wheels but the final model will probably come with ugly ones)

Also i read it is rumored to be getting the new TT 4.0 V8 whichi s fine by me because real RS models have turbos :)

So am I the only one who notices the S4 badges?:p

S4 badged just to keep it on the down low I guess. Its got RS on the brake calipers. But.. is this really the RS bodykit? Im just not feeling this as an RS car at all.

Look how chunky and wide and just cool the original RS4 looked:

Seriously hope thats only the S4 and not an RS4 - needs the bulging arches!

yup it seems to look exactly the same as the s4 so i'd say its just to "try" put people off!:D

Unfortunately, it looks like Audi are trying to make their A4's look like one of the ugliest cars in the world - the current BMW 3 series.
    :(

I agree, the current A4 (B8 chassis) has quite a heavy look and its plunging backside doesn't help either, so I don't expect a real killer-look RS4 this time round, unlike the first version or, my all-time favourite the B7 (produced between 2006 - 2008)

is the car shown here likely to be the production one?
it looks to be riding very high...??

What you really want is a RS2.

Quicker than a McLaren f1 to 30mph, and lots of nice porsche bits.

While Im not a fan of this model, where is it "riding very high"?

I think the wheel offset isnt correct for the arches (test mule afterall), which makes it look higher and narrower than it is.

But the F1 is a true blue NA engine while the RS2 is a heavily boosted engine. Its not that hard to do if you anti-lag your launch with big boost, but also not that impressive.

In all fairness Turbo powered F1 cars were all the rage in the 80`s, Renault were the innovators in that area. 1500hp from a 1.5 litre engine drool...

But the performance comparison was to a McLaren F1, not a Formula 1 race car!
    The McLaren F1 uses a BMW S70/2 naturally aspirated V12 48v engine.

    No turbos need apply!

I should have probably read the post :pac: Was that the engine used in M1?

    Nah, the M1 had a 286bhp 6pot:

The S70/2 is a distant cousin of the SOHC S70B56 engine in my e31 but a closer relative to the DOHC S70/1 engine in the (never released) BMW M8 and sometimes considered a V12 version of the e36 M3's 6pot (S50B30).

It was hand built by Porsche which might explain that. :D

It was supercharged in the M1 wasn't it?
Nah, the Procar version was 470hp with a tuned 9000rpm engine, but still NA (I think). The same engine was turbocharged in the 7series I think though, to make up for BMWs lack of a viable V8 to compete with Merc.

Obviously these days all 3 of them have host of engines, but again back on the RS(4) cars, Audi's heritage is in Forced Induction V engines, not V8 NA engines.. This is what was missing on the last 2 models of S4 and the last RS4 (it had a "BMW like" engine at a time BMW were moving from that type themselves..).
