Hi everyone, I just have a very quick question about a first car

I have 4 grand to spend but thats on a car and insurance.. I am 19 with a full license but I have never been added on anyones insurance full time..

Should 4 grand cover me or will I have to bump my budget up a little (i only have a 1L micra on my to get list)

Get your insurance quote first. Try a broker.

Ah jes give the new boardsie a break.

OP go onto a few insurance websites and input your details and see what you come up with, 123.ie, quinn, tesco, axa, hibernian, avivia etc etc...

OP, i bought a car a couple of months ago
i was 22, provisional license, no previous insurance etc.

    I made a budget of 5k
ended up buying a 1.4 golf (bog slow i know) for 2.5k, but has the potential for resale...the irish love golfs and focuses (focii?)
i got quoted 1800 with axa (they do a student first policy), has some nice perks for
which left with me with a bit of money left over for if any repairs or if anything went wrong

I got renewal quotes this week online and over phone, 123, Quinn, chill, axa, fbd. All were around €800. Dearest was 1300. Driving ten years, no accidents. Rang local broker (munster group) €500. Still higher than I'd like but way cheaper than online or over the phone.

That included windscreen, personal injury, 3rd party on other cars, no claims protection, breakdown cover etc which were extra on the others.

My other half is paying 400 on a micra, 1 year experience, 28, provisional.

Online quotes are a disaster for young drivers, last year I was getting crazy quotes online, dealing with a broker I cut the quotes in half.

Try ring around, it's the only way for under 25s imo.

Well I rang quinn direct a few weeks ago but they gave me quotes that didnt make sense?

I quoted myself on a 1.4 golf and she gave me a quote of 2450

Then I quoted a 1L micra and a different person (called different week) quoted me 3000

Sure that doesnt make sense right? The micra should be cheaper right?

    the cars were both 00

    Not necessarily.
More younger and inexperienced drivers will be in the micra IMO and would be more likely to be in a tip.

If you're starting off try tesco, sorry if i keep mentioning it but they did me a serious price, even with an accident.

You need 2 years No Claims before they will even give You a quote. Thats what I was told last year getting my first car and policy.
I quoted myself on a 1.4 golf and she gave me a quote of 2450

@Carzony, Did You include any Named Driver Experince that You had accumulated?

I got the 1.4 golf and I was 19 with 2 years named driver experience.
In the end I got it down to about €1200 with Windscreen Cover because We had a health policy with them.
