Medical Card Application

The mother applied for a medical card 5 weeks ago when she took sick leave from work. Unfortunately today she took a turn for the worse and there may be serious surgery needed in the near future, until then there will be daily hospital charges of €75 where she is and then whatever Beaumont charge per day.

The application is apparently still outstanding, is there anything we can do in this situation? Can we speed up the process at all? Can I enquire on her behalf?

    Thanks

I don't know if you can speed up your mothers application at all, but I would advise contacting the clinic where she application was made, explain the circumstances and hope for the best.

you can get a letter from the gp once it has been actually processed but hasnt yet been sent out to you/her yet this can save 6 weeks or so of waiting, ring the office to see the status of the application first.

as long as your mother is in the public system in beaumont she will only be liable for the 75euro per day up to a maximum of 10 day in a rolling year. there are no other charges, regardless of what other treatment she receives. also she would not get a bill from the hospital until she is discharged, about a fortnight after discharge.ring the health board about the status of her application

Thanks everybody, rang them this morning and confirmed that the application was successful, will be a few weeks before she gets the card but they're sending out a letter.

One question, I've already paid the €100 A&E charge, can I get this back?
