i think its great its alot tougher than wood
and easier clean with baby wipes
and a small scrubbing brush fior the grips where clay gets in
and ya can dry it with the hair drier when ya have taken it apart
had a wooden stock before and it marks way easier

I had one in my hands yesterday and would rather the ruger for feel and little bit more weight plus funds are very tight so is unrealitic to me also.

A mate of mine has a Tikka for sale, second hand for a little over your budget, but is seriously accurate.

I am a Remington fan, But I would only buy the upper range Remington.
Free floating barrel is what you are looking out for

I shot my first Sika deer with a CZ 550 in 65x55 the american model. The owner only changed it for a custom job.

Good rifle and they use them a lot for big game hunting in Africa 'cos they can take a lot of abuse and still come back for more.

In the end a rifle is a rifle is a rifle and all those you have listed will shoot good and kill any deer. And after all it's the one that suits you and feels good in the hand that you will buy.

Would definitely go with Clive on this. If it feels good in the hands, you'll shoot better with it. Personally, I really like the CZs, and the day they start offering their standard length 550 actions in left hand, they'll be hearing from me about a couple of guns.

    Don't forget http://www.irishguntrader.ie/remington-700-vls-laminated-308-bar/

The above add is 2 months old, but may still be up for sale.

    Dealers quote the cheapest Remingtons.

Remingtons are in every price band

The CZ 550 is a very good no frills rifle...
Make sure to get the american stock and not the monte carlo stock though..

The monte carlo stock is designed more for open sights and the american is for a scope;)

I use the Howa 1500 model and can honestly say its as acurate as any... my hunting buddy has the tikka and often suggested a swap out of a laugh, but it can stand to the tikka for accuracy and feel just as good and for anyone who,s going to reply been sarcastic dont knok it till you try it ;) a good quality rifle for its price can,t go wrong

I have a full setup for sale.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=69800143

I am eager to sell, so make me a reasonable offer if you wish. I would be prepared to sell the rifle on its own either if you don't want to buy the whole lot. PM me if you are interested.

The .243 is a fantastic round, you wont be disappointed if you buy one.
