UPC broadband problems in Clonsilla

If I had any hair I would tear it out because of all the hassle I'm having with UPC. They are digging up the estate and putting fibre in ducts. As a result my broadband fails every week for the last while. I work from home so it affects me a lot. It is bad enough that I am without internet access during the outage but even when the external problem is fixed my home network cannot access the internet.

The issue seems to be that my wireless router is not getting an external IP address from the modem. The technical support people in UPC don't recognise this as their problem. I have tried three different routers with the same result.

Is anybody else in the Clonsilla area having similar problems?

A long shot here, but have you checked that the pc is set to automatically get an IP address?

Or even check if the Ip address is right on the modem?

They were digging up right outside my house (and when I mean right outside my house I mean in my garden, in front of my living room window) in Mulhuddart a while back and it never affected my current internet.

They were not messing with the old lines, rather laying new lines which they would then connect up to the system that was attached to the house.

There was an issue for the last 1.5 weeks which was affecting a large area of D15. But it was fixed 2 days ago.

If you want to get good support from UPC then you have to get past their L1 helpdesk. The staff at L1 are receptionist and are, by their own admission, not very technical.

They'll only admit it is a problem outside the house if more than one user reports the problem. Otherwise, they simple keep looking for issues with the modem/router/pc. So perhaps check with neighbours.

P.S. Any upgrade work should only result in a connectivity loss of a few seconds, but can occur many times per day. I work from home a lot and am speaking from experience.

Mine has been up and down the last few days! It was offline again this morning for a good half an hour and very slow in between! :(

The computers get their IPs from the router so that works fine. The router needs to get an IP from the modem and I don't have access to the settings on the modem because it belongs to UPC.

Well the last time I had IP issues I got a new router off Eircom.

As someone else has said you need to make sure your getting to the right people. I never used UPC, but id assume there is a designated number for broadband support?

Loads of UPC vans around Littlepace today, I have noticed my internet speed has improved slightly today. Not on speedtest, but the response times on sites like Boards is way better.
