Scrappage rules .. the fine print...

I've just returned from taking a test drive and pricing scrappage deals.
I hadn't double checked my original Vehicle Licensing Cert until now.
My car's first date of licensing was 16/7/2001.
I phoned the original dealer who I purchased the car from earlier in the day and they told me that from their records it was registered in June 2001 but he couldn't be sure which date.
Hence I went to check the VLC.

    I am a bit downhearted.
Is this definitely a non-runner for the scrappage scheme which runs until June this year ?
Is the date on the VLC the definitive one.

    Update on this.
I found the Vehicle Reg. Cert and the car was registered 26/6/2001.

Also my NCT is due 25/6/2011 (this year).

Might I still just slip into the scrappage scheme ?

I guess date of first licencing was date it was taxed.

You should be grand given the date on the reg cert

Yep, first licenced is date it was taxed.

Date first registered is the date that matters.

    What's the car?

He's changing from a Renault Megane, 2001 (119k miles on the clock), not sure what he's changing too, possibly a Fabia considering his previous posts. :)

Yes. Indeed Cionád has been stalking me :D
It is indeed a long-in-the-tooth Megane (01) at 119k miles.
I did a lot more mileage in the first 5 years of owning it.

I'm veering towards the Hyundai i30 or even i20 now.
I took both out for a test drive today.
I thought the i20 was very sweet and easy on the pocket.
It had the feel of a well equipped Polo and was surprisingly more roomy than I expected.

i30 is a fine car too.
I may stretch to it but I'm being deliberately thrifty given the times, etc !

I'll test drive the Fabia as well but it is a second run-around car as the family car is a much larger Skoda Octavia 2010.

Tip: Scrap the car yourself, some scrap dealers give a couple of hundred for the car, as long as you have a "Certificate of Destruction" you can go to any dealer to do a scrappage deal. You can scrap it 60 days either side of registration of new car.
