Replacing Car Radio '99 Audi A4

Just called Halford's in Carrickmines regarding getting a new car radio.
€59.99 for the cheapest model and the same price again to have it fitted.
Car is a '99 a4. Can anyone advise if it would be hard to fit a radio like that. Would the instructions be hard to come by for something like that? Really hoping to keep the price down, and he also mentioned a wiring harness which is another 29.99.

Can anyone advise of a cheaper solution? Most places said they won't repair it.

    Thanks

I'm not sure about your car, but a lot of cars for a good while now, use the same wiring harness so that if you want to change the unit, a new set should just plug in without any chopping.

It's simple to do, hardest thing is taking the old one out which you can buy removal tools for in Halfords, here's a video of the basics.

That's a great video, hopefully I will be able to figure it out. I'm just looking for the cheapest radio, Halford's do one for €60 so I will go with that.

In the video he has u-shaped yokes to take the radio out. Hopefully they will come with the new radio

There are flat keys that you need to remove the A4 original unit. You'll also need an adapter plate to cover the gaps at the side of the unit, and an adaptor loom to suit the new radio into the old.

    Other than that, its simple.

Folks having a bit of a problem.

Fine plugging in the radio, but can't connect the aerial. Doesn't fit. Some photos here, can anyone suggest a fix for this?file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/My%20Documents/car%20radio/Image0297.jpg

Apologies...bit of a technical problem adding the pictures there...

1st pic: show the back of the new radio, and the connection where the aerial should go.

2nd pic: a red and white wire coming out of the radio - no idea where these are supposed to go

3rd pic: on the right of the pic is the connector that went into the aerial of the old radio

    4th pic: close up

BTW, this doesn't fit with red & white wires

the red and white wires are for an amplifier, you don't need those, just stuff them in behind.

you need to get a 'bullet' adapter for your aerial, these are only around a euro, most motor factors should have them, generally these come with a new stereo just encase though, check in the bag with the instruction manual, its usually there.

Isn't that the adapter itself inside the foam on the aeriel cable? It should pull out leaving you with a bullet to plug in.

Here are the pics of the adaptor inside the foam, it doesn't match the radio either

Grand stuff, I will pick up one of these and hopefully that will do it. thanks
