I had a root canal and a crown done back in Dec, just this morning when i woke i found the gum around it to be bleeding, it stopped soon after.
I've just been lying on the bed for 20 mins there and again it started bleeding, it stops soon after i'm up and around.
    What could be causing this?

Gum disease, spontaneous bleeding usually occurs in the morning but is usually a sign of bad gum problems.....see a dentist asap.

    Gum disease??
Any mouth wash or similar you'd recommend in the mean time if i cant get an appointment with a dentist asap.
    Thanks.

try brushing with a soft toothbrush to the gumline- you won't do any harm to the root canal tooth by cleaning it, also floss between all teeth either with regular floss or a flossette, this will start the process

to be honest you will still need to go to the dentist in case tartar has built up and also may need further treatment/referral depending on the severity of the problem

    best of luck
