    Hi there...

Just wanted to see if anyone has any advice or experiences they can share about their choice of TV for gaming.

I'm looking at a Samsung HD Ready 42 in Currys, it's got USB and 600hz
    http://www.currys.ie/Product/SAMSUNG-PS42C450B-42andquot-HD-Ready-Plasma-TV/296866/339.0

Also considering a Full HD LED Tosihiba (100hz)
    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/5521667/art/toshiba/40sl733g-led-television.html#pix-review

Or possibly a Phillips Full HD LCD (100hz)
    http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-13-37P540

Anyway I'm aware that 600hz is a bit of a gimmick, but also I know that most ps3 games come in 720p so full HD isn't necessary. I don't have any HD channels and I own two Blu Rays and it's a situation that's not going to change for a couple of years so I don't really need full HD.

Having a USB, which they all do, is a plus but all I want to do is watch sports and play games without seeing trails or blurs.

I've been researching this for weeks and I'm just trying to make an informed decision, any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks.

You can get a Full HD tv from here, http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-42LD450-42-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B003H1048C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301587993&sr=8-1 for a little over €400.
    Saving you a tidy sum.
This tv also has a USB post.

that 600Hz is no gimmick on plasmas whereas it is alot of the time on lcd/LED displays.

If I was you I'd go plasma as it deals with motion extremely well.

An extra €50 or so will net you the Samsung LE40C650 from Amazon so if I were you and already spending the bones of €600 on a TV, I'd spend the extra couple of quid and get that one. :)

If you'd prefer to save a few quid, the LG that F1ngers linked above is also pretty damn nice, especially at that price.

do your research... input lag is a big thing

ive played the ps3 on some friends tvs and the input lag is noticable, makes shooters like battlefield bad company 2 ect very hard and even made me pack it in as it was not enjoyable having a noticable delay on screen to what you have pressed on the joypad

Yeah I've done plenty of research and at this stage I just want to see what other people's experiences are for gaming and sport, thanks for the help so far

Boys, don't go buying a TV off of the internet. If it breaks you're screwed. Those TVs from Amazon might not be compatible with Saorview meaning you're not future-proofed (as silly a phrase as that is).

Hardly, most places either pick it up if its within warrenty or have a main collection pick/drop off place.

A warranty? A warranty is pretty useless after it runs out. Under the Sale of Goods and Supply Act 1980 we've got strong consumer rights that go far beyond any aul warranty. Buying from the internet you're relying on the EU distance selling rules which may cover you to an extent but you can't beat being able to rely on Irish legislation when dealing with a retailer in Ireland where if push comes to shove a dispute could be settled in the small claims court - just like people have done with their broken PS3s; try getting a repair or replacement on a 4+yr old PS3 via an internet retailer.

My advice to the OP would be stick with retailers in Ireland and maybe get the 100Hz. As you say, a lot of PS3 games are just in 720 anyway.
& Soarview is pretty much irrelivant for most people as they have sky/upc anyways.

Irrelevant? Sports on RTE 2 in HD (not available on Sky/UPC) irrelevant? Hardly. With Saorview people can get the channels they mainly watch for free without having to pay a monthly bill. If you enjoy forking over for the same channel twice (licence fee + monthly bill) then so be it.
(you can also get BBC, CH4 et al free via Freesat too)
