Would the HDip in SPHE be worth doing?

They are doing a part time 1 year HDip in SPHE in Waterford IT. Just wondering if it would be worth doing to add to my 1 subject?

I have never heard of SPHE being anything other than a filler subject. I dont think anybody is going to get a job on the basis of having the qualification in it.

If you have the time, money AND interest in it then there would be no harm. If your looking at it as the thing which will make your CV stand out from the crowd it might not be your best bet.

Yep, I agree, probably not the most useful thing you could do. SPHE/CSPE aren't taken too seriously in my experience (I teach them along with my main subject). But I can understand why you would want to add to your qualifications.

I know at least one person who teaches nothing other than SPHE and CSPe, he absoloutley loves them and has done extra qualifications in both. Noone else in his school wanted the subjects and he is great at them, so good in fact that he has given up teaching his degree subject entirely...so its not a totally hopeless idea !!!

I looked at the HDip in SPHE before. If I lived closer to Waterford, I'd probably do it. I'm not sure if it would bag you a job, but definitely wouldn't hurt.

    You could also consider this:

Higher Diploma in Theological Studies at Maynooth. It would qualify you to teach RE which is now an exam subject.

That's fair enough, but from what you said he was already teaching his degree subject in the school and willingly moved into this area.

OP - It would be handy to have but an exam subject would be better.
