Yes I did. I applied for Jobseekers Benefit and I also applied for the Masters. The day the masters started I signed off. All above board.

I was a mature student, so not sure if that had any effect.

The Department of Social Protection may ask for a letter to confirm you have finished your course and are not returning that september. If this is so then more than likely you will be refused a unemployment assistant payment. This also applys for the SWA despite the fact you may be genuiely seeking full time employment during the summer months.

But technically he/she will have finished their degree so they are finished full -time eduation up untill they are accepted into the masters, which is not a given untill they get their place on the course.

Ask your college for the letter to say you are finished your degree and hand it with your application to SW. That will cover you.

Yes best thing is to get the leter from the college as soon as possible, as there is such a big back log on claims now, this will help them from seeking it later on, and therefor avoid any future delays

You must be out of full time education for three months. What happened to that kicker?

Might just be for under 23's as some mature students I know are claiming on summer months

The three month rule only applies to those leaving school (either early school leavers or those who have completed their final leaving cert exam).

Those finishing third level can apply as soon as their course is finished.

Mature students can claim during the summer vacation period even if they haven't finished their course, while those who were under 23 when they started their course cannot. Of course, when they finish their course, they can claim, there is no three month waiting time.

All of the above is subject to the Genuinely Seeking Work criteria. You must be able to demonstrate that you are looking for and available for full-time work. If you already have a settled intention to start a further course, this may be called into question.

I got refused Jobseekers allowance until i was 3 months finished my course and I was in third level education. I know people who have had no problem getting it but I know people who have been refused too. I know I was until I was finished 3 months and I was a mature student too in third level education.
