Buying International Shares

Ok so I do a very small amount of stock trading with pretty small amounts of money (think c.€1000)

Currently its over the phone with Davy, charging €100 commission per transaction which I know is robbery Their online section charges €10 IIRC but they require €2000 as a start up fund.

I'd love to get into foreign markets and wondering what the best and most economical route is.

AIB offer share dealing online, and that is the only other option I know of.

WHat I really want to be able to do is to pick my market, look at the list of companies, and decide right I want X number of shares in them. Done, they're bought end of story.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Thanks for that. I actually couldn't remember what terms to use to search for that.
    Very helpful

€100 commission is criminal! Not being funny but if you're paying that I'd wait until you're a bit more financially savvy before entering the stock market.

I use www.firstrade.com, $6.95 per trade and no annual charge. Easy enough to set up and a nice platform. You can only trade US stocks but most international companies will have a listing on a US exchange.

I take your point about the commission being criminal, but it wasn't really of my choosing. I was left shares and needed €2k to open an online account with Davy, something I couldn't do. I did a few trades, made a bit of money and put up with that price for a short while. I now want to get into it more and as you've said and I know, that price is ridiculous.

I like the look of FirstTrade but would love to be able to trade directly with slightly ore obscure places other than here, UK and US etc. Ideally would love Japan, Italy possibly canada.

www.tdwaterhouse.ie is an Irish based broker and you can trade on 14 international exchanges. €15 per trade I think.
