    Hi all, have a rover 25 1.4 16v year 2000.
Sat down on me going over the m50 last week. Felt like I was loosing power, soon as I came to a stop the car shut down and would'nt restart. a quick look showed water coming out of the thermostat housing. Long story, replaced the housing ( found it had no thermostat in it ! ) new plugs, cleaned off excess oil from head and fired it up. only starts after about 20 seconds and then badly. Will cut out if I don't keep the revs above 2000! Could this be a sensor gone or more seriously the head gasket, any and all help much appreciated.

Well those engines are of course famous for their headgasket failures so if it been running with no thermostat as well as leaking then its likely to be worst case. You need to have a combustion leak test(sniff test) done to confirm.
