Im not sure what my best processor option would be given the icore 3 are out of my budet.

Ya, if you dont care about the size of the screen then I would advise a netbook.

Yea Ive no problem buyng online, better options as well.
Ive bought before a few years ago from laptopsdirect.co.uk.

This person doesnt know shes getting it, its a present.
screen size is flexible.I guess no more than 14-15inch anyway

This type of use the processor really doesn't matter, more the RAM. keep the laptop clean and well maintained (good anti-virus (AVG rules) and keep junk off it) and the lenovo will be fine.

Celeron had a bad name years ago (some cpus were released as cheap restricted chips) but there is nothing wrong with the current ones. It's not as powerful as an i3 but it's a good bit faster than most of the atom chips that are in netbooks. It will run windows 7, ms office and play video files fine - unlike most atom-based netbooks.

can't think / don't see of anything in that price range except netbooks - most of which are 10 inch and wouldn't be suitable for college use - typing assignments / projects etc as they're too small for that. that's a really good deal - good size but light enough to carry in and out of college. next size up is 15.6 inch which is a bit of a pain to carry around. Lenovo (was IBM) is a solid brand.

dont forget to budget something in for damage protection and/or file backup. Biggest problem college students run into is lost data, usually because they keep everything on a USB drive and never back anything up, but other times it's from breaking their laptop or getting beer spilled on it or some such malarky.
