    I have two Samsung tvs one a 40" the other a 50".
The time on the text on the 40" is an hour behind, the country is set to UK to enable the digital text while the time is the right time on the 50" this is set to Ireland. If I set the country to Ireland on the 40" it makes no difference as the time is still an hour behind.
Forgot to say it is RTE text.
Any one any explination as to why this should be?

Is there something like an "Auto DST" setting in the menu?

Dont know but if I change the time in the menu it dosent change the time on the text.

Is it MHEG-5 digital text or the traditional "analogue" text?

This has been a problem since the clocks went forward. If you play around with the clock settings on your tv you should be able to solve it.On my philips tv i found my clock was on automatic, setting it to manual and selecting standard time got my times back to normal.

Is there a DST (Daylight Saving Time) setting somewhere in the menu?

On my Sony setting when this to "on" it adds 1 hr to the GMT time zone setting on the TV in Mar and automatically adjusts the time in Oct.

There is no DST setup on my LG. It has no country setting or any other setting for dealing with this.

Because it's a "Freeview HD" only TV.

At least it's not a PVR.

update. switched on my tv just now and i realize i still have a problem. The clock is correct on screen but the times are wrong on the guide.Surely this is a saorview problem?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,711 ✭✭✭fat-tony

Unlikely to be a Saorview problem. The EPG times are always UTC (GMT) and there is a flag which indicates the local time offset. This is set as +1 since the clock change on Sunday morning. I would think the issue is that the stream information which indicates the +1 flag is set to country code IRL and that certain TVs or STBs which are not fully compatible are not recognising this and therefore default to GMT. The equivalent indicators on the SKY satellite platform contain both IRL and GBR country codes.

The EPG time is correct it is only on MHEG5 text that the time is wrong,if I set the country to Ireland the time on the text on RTE2 is correct when its switched on at first but then reverts back to GMT.

I was actually replying to huggs2 who was saying the time was wrong on the guide (which I took to mean the EPG!). MHEG is a different story - don't know where the time is generated for that, but it's likely to be sourced from the same location as the EPG, but perhaps the MHEG application in your TV is not detecting the country data correctly even though the EPG is handling it ok. My Sony KDL32W5810 displays the time on EPG correctly and on MHEG even though it is set to UK, so go figure!

I have a Metronic T2 HD zapbox. Works well for Irish and Freeview from the North. The epg for freeview shows the correct time but when I change to the Irish channels the epg time is one hour earlier.
Not sure if it a box issue ????

My Sony DVD/HDD recorder suffers from same time problem. Even when I change the clock manually, the EPG for RTE/TG4 etc still remains an hour behind and I can't seem to fix the problem.

Folks - it's a box issue! Saorview use the following info within the TOT (time) data stream:

    Country = IRL <
this is what your incompatible kit is failing on!

LocalTimeOffset=01:00:00 < -- eg Daylight Savings or Summer Time

TimeOfChange=30/10/2011 02:00:00 < -- eg when the clocks go back next

    NextTimeOffset= 00:00:00

On a true free-to-air satellite box you almost never have an issue like this as you set your offset from UTC in the time menu. As all EPGs on DVB use UTC to display their data you will see the EPG times displayed correctly for your local timezone. As the boxes you are using are either set to UK timezone or are not localised for IRL country code data, you will have issues with time displays.
The only way this is going to work on your boxes properly is either to have RTENL transmit a GBR country code also (same as on Freesat/SKY - which transmit both IRL and GBR) or you are going to have to set your box to IRL or get a firmware update to make it work with IRL.

Has anyone tried to contact Saorview/RTE about this?

Is this a case of 2 minutes editing a text file?

Accepting it is not really saorview's problem, a little gesture would mean a lot:)

watty may have a contact within RTE - couldn't hurt!

Thanks for your help tony.I think my incompatible philips tv needs a firmware update anyway because MHEG5 is not switching in on the ireland country setting which is why i have it tuned in on uk setting(Thanks Watty)I assume this would also correct the time issue.Earlier today i decided to tune using country Portugal as it is GMT same timeline as us. Everything was correct timewise and i thought i was home and dry when in less than 5 mins. it reverted back to its old ways.I then tuned again using uk as before and the same thing happened, everything perfect for about 5 mins. then time went off again. So i think something is transmitted to put my time off.
Just to sum up on my problem.
The time on "RTE news now" is always correct.Selecting the EPG the info on the bottom right is always correct, that is time, channel, channel i.d.
and the time is also correct on the list of channels.but the programs that are listed are the ones coming on in an hours time so i dont know whats on now.
but if i select a channel the "now and next" program names are correct so i know whats on now that way, the only thing is the time is one hour behind but that dosent matter as i now know what's on now and next.
    hope all that makes sense.
This is what's listed for my philips tv support site firmware which was last updated 9 months ago.Doesn't look promising for a firmware update anytime soon.

I miss not being able to set reminders for programs on saorview, the reminder would pop up on the screen even if i was watching Freesat on an old skybox via USB.
Anyone know a work around for this time problem?

Sam seems to have sorted his problem - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=71472496&postcount=12 .

It might sound obvious but has anybody tired deleting the channel list and rescanning ?

    Yes, no difference

Its not as simple as delete the channels stored as data remains.

Restore to factory settings and go through setup from scratch. That will sort out time issues.

Tried a factory reset but that did not sort it out.

Anyone got a Humax HDR-FOX T2 PVR and using it away for the range of Freeview overspill areas just for Saorview and if so is this problem with time out of sync during IST also occurring?

I am on the point of buying one of these to compliment my Foxsat HDR but the time issue would be huge when scheduling recordings and I really do not want to wait around for a box as good as this one to be Saorview Certified.

No I have not sorted it out. It is a problem with the firmware thinking I am in the UK, and RTE is in France. More compatibility problems with FreeviewHD and Saorview.

    I'll be back onto LG.

My old sky box of course is connected via scarth not USB as i mentioned earlier
