    McFadden is spelt wrong

    75

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

McFadden is spelt "McFaden" and Niall O'Connor isn't there and he was definitely capped in Ireland's 2009 USA/Canada tour.

    Got 64.

Got 74 then ran out of time. A few in there that I wouldn't have got in a million years...

89 and missed some shameful ones. Rob Kearney, Stephen Ferris, Kev McLaughlin amongst others. The McFadden spelling had me driven demented.

82, missed some real embarrassingly obvious ones though, Earls, Buckley, O'Leary, Trevor Brennan..
Got McFadden thanks to Thomond's post, otherwise I was getting annoyed.:p

76 - how did I forget Big Mal and Conor O'Shea?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

Was trying to be logical, ie go through positions and go back in time but totally forgot loads of recent internationals.

    1st got 77
    2nd time got 84 :o
3rd time got 110  left out O'leary, Bell, Ross and Ryan :(

Should Mel Deane not be in it?

He toured with the senior squad but I don't think he ever got a cap

spent ages thrying to think of chris henry and john fogarty

After entering the most obvious player, I took a few gos of bashing in "mick o'driscoll" before I realised that if you put in the surname it would put in each player with that name.

Also spent a few minutes trying various combinations for Dion OKwinnagawn - and couldn't get it right - so I'm not going to spell it right here for anybody else :D

Forgot big mal had the O and just assumed I had him when I got john kelly.

Sean O Brien top of my shame list.

Ummm, is all this naming of players not spoiling it for other people?

I would have assumed the first thing people would do would be to click the link in the first post instead of reading through the thread and coming back to it. At least that's what I do. Regardless of the majority of those named, there are far more tricky ones from the early part of the century that people will struggle with.

You're probably right. In that case, I would never have remembered James Topping and it was news to me that Paul Shields got a cap...

I knew Shields was capped but couldn't recall his name so I kept typing Nigel Brady in the hope it was him. The Ulster players from the start of the century accounted for a good chunk of the ones I missed. I tried to devise a plan going for current squad (made me miss the injured players like Ferris and Kearney), followed by the WC squads of 2007 and 2003 and then any Lions from the 3 tours. After that I was struggling.

The startling thing for me is the low numbers of players capped for ireland during this period .... shows how small our playing pool is when you consider France have probably capped that amount of players inthe last 4 years (ok a lot of that is down to the french coach not really knowing what he's doing)

I'm pretty sure you're right on Caldwell. Was used as a sub against Canada the summer of the Lions tour.

70 . Shocked I forgot Mick Galwey and Paddy Johns

71 - Happy enough with that. Did miss out on a couple of better known players like Frankie Sheahan, Conor O'Shea and Tomas O'Leary.
There were only a couple that I had never heard of before like James Topping and Tom Tierney.
