    Hey all,

I am a poor to average cyclist who competes as an A3 and I participate in my club league. I ride on average 10 - 12 hrs per week.

Unfortunately a very careless driver recently decided to drive over my beloved road bike with me on it!! Thankfully, I limped away from the incident, however my bike was written off. I was riding a Giant TCR with Dura Ace 7700 groupset.

I now need to buy a replacement, and am seeking the advice of the guru's on this website.

I'm looking for a similar standard of replacement bike with a minimum of Ultegra groupset. All suggestions, new and second - hand, of what to buy and where to buy would be greatly appreciated. As I said above, my budget is circa €3000, but all suggestions are requested!!

    Cheers all.

Sorry to hear about your accident, shame about the bike... I started a simular thread HERE and there are some pretty good links/ suggestions in it.

Well as much as I think Cervelos are grossly overated, this is pretty good value if your size is there :

Was there anything at all salvageable from your TCR ?

I've posted this before, but whenever I buy again, and definitely if I'm racing, I'll be seriously looking at manufacturers who have a favourable frame-replacement policy - where if you crash and damage your frame you can buy a new one at a discounted cost.

Cannondale do it I think, and Stevens do it for definite. It's only something I've been made aware of recently and I think it's a great idea, and definitely something that would affect my purchasing decision.

It's good to hear you survived the accident with little damage to yourself. Shame about the bike.

Have you thought of Red Bull? I love the look http://www.roseversand.com/article/red-bull-carbon-x-lite-4000-2-speed-400511//aid:400513 dura ace comes in at €3749 and ultegra at €2999.

    Happy shopping anyway.

    Recent thread with similar budget:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056206459

FWIW I'm really liking my Canyon Ultimate AL, which is mostly this spec with Red instead of Force and different wheels. Coming from a (wrecked) Scott Addict it feels very similar, honestly can't feel any difference at speed. €1800 and that's before your racers discount leaves enough money left over for a sunny training camp, power meter, fast wheels etc.

That said I've only had it a week and will no doubt find reasons to hate it at some point.

edit: it may well be that all bikes feel the same and that I just think my more recent ones are better because I'm marginally faster. What the hell would I know.

    Hey all,

Thanks for all the replies. There is plenty of info there to keep me busy for the next few hours.

Murph . . Very little salvageable from the bike... Front wheel, STI levers and 1 bottle cage!!

Bouldwhacker - Cheers for the link, plenty of ideas there, so far the Colnago or Lumens Canyon has grabbed my attention.

I'll keep searching and hopefully I will have my new ride ready to be unveiled at the chariot wars that is The Gorey 3 Day!!!

Sierra Bravo What happened that the damage to the bike was so severe? You really weren't left with much!

@ Lumen, what happened to your Addict? That sucks to hear its smashed!

I was going to make my usual reccomendation of Scott addict r2 2008 from slane cycles...

I'm not sure that Lumen would be willing to part with it having just got in and all.;)

+1 on a Canyon though. Myself along many others here have one and they are a lovely bike.

I hate these threads but I'll chip in my advice. I think you should lower your budget. You should get a nice hybrid with front suspension (an abosolute must have) for around €280 in halfords. The Apollo have nice heavy/durable frames that should withstand another crash. €350 and you might get disc brakes.

I passed a roadie on my hybrid once.
