3.60 Euro Per Hour Hypothetical Situation

Is it legal to pay someone E3.60 per hour to work in the home, cleaning, and minding children?

If someone were to be offered a job at the rate of E3.60 per hour would that person be entitled, out of a sense of outrage and civic duty, to report the employer?

To whom would one report such an employer?

As far as I know it's not legal.

You don't have to pay minimum wage to a live in au pair or if some one is minding children in their own home, but I think if it is in the person's home they are an employer and have to pay you minimum wage and are liable for all tax / prsi contributions.

The position posited in the hypothetical situation is not a live in au pair position. It would involve going to the home of family X, and cleaning the home whilst minding their children.

Definitely wouldn't be legal. These would be the people to contact, www.employmentrights.ie

There was an article in one of the papers last week saying you only have to pay a student au pair 100 or 130 euro a week or something - maybe these people skimmed the article and thought they were in luck!

Your hypothetical friend should check out some legit companies that deal with these services. - the rates are 10-12 euro so working for minimum wage would be generous

Do you remember which paper you found this in?

Just googled it - Irish independent.
According to the APSC rates, an au pair companion will get €90 per week for 30 hours per week and two nights of babysitting; an au pair minder will get €100 per week for 35 hours per week and two nights of babysitting; and an au pair plus will be paid €115 per week for 40 hours per week and one night of babysitting.
