Illness benefit is what you will be applying for.

fill out the cert(MC1) and send it to your local social welfare office,if you are getting paid from work they will recieve your payment and pay you your wages while you are unfit to work.if there is no sick pay scheme you will recieve €188 p/w plus child and adult dependant allowances if applicable. You must get a sick cert(MC2) for every week you are unfit to work.

Do you have paid sick leave in your contract of work? If so you could youse your sick leave. You can still obtain sick certs from the doctor and give to the Social Welfare, there is a few systems of how this would work, the most common one would be. That you would hand over your Illness Benefit payment to your employer and they will pay you the sick leave, which can be the amount of your wages or the amount of IB(sometimes both) you are entitled to, this would all depend on what way your job will work it. But if you have sick days in work, this may be the best option for you, money wise, you should give them a call and ask them what there procedure is for receving the SW payments.
